Syllabus. My syllabus closely follows the officially recommended DSA syllabus on which the driving test is based and that taught during the driving instructor training course. This will give you a sound preparation for the driving test. However, it is my aim to set your standard of driving well above that which is required for the test. During your driving lessons you will gain much experience and many tips that will set you well on the path of your driving career. We will explore all types of road layouts all across the Wirral to give you a wide breadth of driving experience, I want you to be a safe driver for life. Driving lessons are the start of a lifelong driving career.

Theory and Practical Tests

Theory Test. The theory test must be taken and passed before you can apply for the practical driving test. There are several DVD / CDRom packages available to assist you with your study. The test itself is in two parts. The first part consists of 50 multiple choice questions, and you must answer at least 44 correctly. The second part is the Hazard Perception test, (HPT), which consists of video clips in which you must identify hazards. Here you must score 44 out of a possible 75. You must pass both parts of the test at one sitting. The test is taken in Liverpool

Practical Test. There are two locations for practical driving tests on the Wirral: Wallasey Driving Test Centre and Upton Driving Test Centre. The practical driving test lasts for approx 40 minutes and consists of two parts. The 'Show Me Tell Me' part requires you to answer 2 vehicle maintenance questions. The second part is the driving test itself and you must not commit any serious or dangerous faults. You can make up to 15 minor faults but more than 3 of the same type may constitute a serious fault and therefore a fail. However, please do not be daunted by this as Mr B will quide you through this. I will not present you for test until I am sure your driving standard is well above that required for the test. It is not currently a requirement for your instructor or accompanying driver to sit in on your test, but one day it may be. The advantage of this is that your instructor can analyse your performance and problems can then be dealt with more objectively. The driving test now includes the new 'Independent Driving' element. I have always trained my pupils to be able to drive independently and to be able to follow directions and signs, but you will be trained to be familiar with this new element. .
